This was before my time, but I know that Hot Rod Al convinced TL to do separate bumpers on these, with the idea that they could be chromed separately (though they rarely were--see pic above) and look more realistic. For whatever reason (cost? fragility?) the experiment was not repeated.

Thanks Wyatt for another wonderful picture.
A great choice for the Picture Of The Week.
I have always liked the '55, '56', and '57 Chevy convertible castings.
Hot Rod Al and the staff at Playing Mantis did a great job on the design of these castings.
Considering the time frame when they were originally produced, I believe that they still stand up well against many of the later casting releases.
These were must have castings for me after their debut.
And I still like them.
The paint schemes are well done.

Jeff, thanks for the added insight on this specific casting.
I always enjoy reading your comments.

Cool 55's. What a stylish car that was. BTW, doesn't the 57 Nomad also have the separate bumper? I seem to recall the front bumper on the PiP Nomad crumbling off.

QUOTE(60sMetal @ May 27 2007, 01:20 AM) View Post

I seem to recall the front bumper on the PiP Nomad crumbling off.

I have a PIP Nomad that came straight out of the blister with the rear corner of the bumper being completely broken off and laying in the bottom of the blister.
I thought that this aspect added a little realism to the PIP concept.
I may have to take a picture of it.

Cheers. Cobra
