Thanks Wyatt for your superb choice for the "Picture Of The Week".
That is an early casting that has survived the test of time.
I have the red and blue versions illustrated in your picture.
And I believe that this is the last one that I purchased:

From Classic Gold 2 release 16.
Image courtesy of JLCollector.com. Thanks Wyatt.
I think that there have been some other versions released after the one from Classic Gold 2 release 16, but I don't have any of them in my collection.

I have always liked this casting, although it sits very high in the back end.
Considering it is a muscle car and the era of time that it was new, I guess that this is acceptable.
I am sure that there were many of them that roamed the streets with jacked up rear ends in the day.
It is always nice to have at least one of these earlier castings in your collection to truly appreciate how good these castings were, when they debuted by JL.
This was a good one.

Cheers. Cobra

The '69 Plymouth Roadrunner is an early casting favorite of mine.

Nice pic Wyatt!

I must admit Wyatt, that's not one of my favorite castings. The only one still in my collection is the before mentioned CG2 rel 16 one. thumbsup.gif Though one day I would like to add a TRU Exclusive "summer of 69" one. Just because the hood stripes and blackout rims look so........(insert Motorhead/Iron Fist here). thumbsup.gif

I have a feeling this will be one of the "retired castings" in the near future. rolley.gif

Darkwiz, I am sure that your statement is true.
As I have said before, and will say again, JL castings have come a very long ways since 2000.
When this casting was originally released, I considerd it one of the best that had been produced up to that time.
Time never stands still.
I still like it, but that is just me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this casting.

Cheers. Cobra

I'm with you on that one Wiz,that older casting is not up to JL standards as of late IMHO. A re-do in both '68 & '68 is needed to do this iconic MoPar> proper justice....although I under stand the attraction to the old castings as having an undeniable charm of there own.

Lummox, this is a 1996 JL casting.
A very old casting.
By today's standards, I know that it will never match up with what is currently available.
It does have a place in history.
I think that it is appropriate to view some of these castings from time to time.
Many newer JL collectors have never seen many of these castings and probably never will for that matter.
Should TLC produce this particular casting today? Probably not!
It is nice to look ahead and sometimes it is nice to look back.

I appreciate the effort that Wyatt puts into picking the castings for "The Picture Of The Week".
And Lummox, thanks for participating in the discussion. thumbsup.gif

Cobra, as a valid JL collector. It is my duty to try to abtain at least one casting of each. There for I was pointing out the one I still have of that particular casting. In NO WAY was I trying to bring disrespect to the whole concept of the POTW. This casting has not been used since Mopar Box Set 2? 199?? or so. My whole idea of useing a rolley.gif was in gest. thumbsup.gif I hope it was seen as such. smile.gif

Yes Lummox. I agree that the older castings have an undeniable charm of there own. Some more then others. thumbsup.gif Robert

One of the great oldies! I'd love to see that model year redone. I think the first two years of the Road Runner were the best styles.
