Thanks Wyatt this is by far my favorite JL casting. I just wish they would have done as good of a job on the GTS!

I've always liked this casting, too. I've also thought it is one of the most overlooked and would like to see more of it.

I always thought the wheels and tires looked a little small on that casting, but it could be an illusion due to wheel and tire choices and dimensions. Otherwise it's Viper-rific!

The white one with blue stripes was part of one of the first Classic Gold releases I designed. The photocard came from a press kit. That was the same release that my Montego was in (release 14?). I recall the yellow one being submitted as a Your Car is the Star release but it didn't make it when I was there. (I don't think it did, anyway...)

I might be completely wrong about this, but I think the GTS was meant to be part of the "red card" $1.99 series, along with the Cobra, the first-casting second-gen T/A, the 280ZX and others. That was the middle price point in a three-price strategy that was floated and failed in the late 90s. As a result his casting is a little smaller, has no opening features, etc. Most of those "red card" tools later were integrated into the regular line.

It originally showed up in the Racing Machines series:

Not sure if it was to be a red card or not before that. I think Racing Machines came out before red cards, but I can't recall.

The yellow one was Mac's first viper. So it was probably floating around when you left. Wasn't Mac your replacement? Were you still there when he arrived or had you been gone a little while?

I am thinking the same thing but it has been awhile. The first JL viper I bought was the pewter viper. What came first the pewter viper or the sizzlers viper?

After a while it all starts to blur.

Yes. In fact I'm proud to say I recommended him for the position. Though I'm sure his previous relationship with the company (thanks to his book) didn't hurt!

I was gone for a couple of weeks, but we had known each other previously.

They were all out around the same time--and before my time in JL's employ.

As always, the pics are great Wyatt. But I also enjoy reading the "behind the scenes" stories as well. Keep it up guys!
