Oh wow!
I've never came across one of them at the Pegs. I guess I came in too late, lol.

They look sweet. Kind of like the lost love child of a TVR Cerbera, Jaguar XKE, and a Shelby Daytona.
I definitely like the motor popping through the bonnet.

*Added*
Can I get a pint of the Green paint? wink.gif

I like the green with the real wheels the best. I wish they did a blue one so I could race one against a Cobra. JL could do a lot more with this casting but I don't think it really sold that well. sad.gif

Here is an okay site for some race car pics...

I got the white lightning version of red one. .. it was one of the 1st W/L that I ever found...there is a HTF W/L variation to the red one-( rubber tire ).....I hope to add one of them-(rubber tire W/L) to my collection one day.....

Another nice picture, Wyatt.
This was a car that most people never knew anything about it.
Actually, quite an unusual vehicle in its day.

I do remember that this particular casting did NOT sell well from the Rebel Rods releases.
Most on-line dealers, had these castings hanging around for a long time after the initial releases.
I have a couple of them in my collection. They have been put away for a very long time, so I may have to go dig one or two of them out to have another look at them. I believe that the "Real Wheels"TM rubber tire versions had Hoosier tires.
BYW, I liked the casting but just didn't like the wheels that were offered with the plastic tires.
That's just me, and how I felt at the time that this casting was current.
The rubber tire versions do look much better, IMHO.

Cheers. Cobra

If memory serves... this one was originally destined to be in the red-card cars sold in drugstores in the late 90s, part of JL's 3-tiered pricing scheme (99cent Rebel Rods, $1.99 red card, $2.99 regular cars). When that plan died a death, I suspect it got pushed into Rebel Rods, just to have a place to use it. It must have been coming along in the process already, but it just tells you how thin the pricing-structure idea was, if castings could be swapped interchangeably between series. (The Cobra was another one of those $1.99 cars...)

Ten years later and we are still getting versions of casting #426.
That makes me happy.
Thanks Jeff for the reminder.
