Another Great picture thumbsup.gif I like the light and bright colors on this make and model. To me it shows up the curvaceous body line better.

This was initially supposed to be done with the first waves of VWs in 2002 or so. The 2:1 resin was not approved, and VW never said why. They never did--only yes or no. A couple of years later, we tried again. And they said OK. We don't know what the deal was ... but note that no one did a Ghia until the last five years or so. Maybe there was some issue that needed to be resolved internally at VW? Whatever the case, it's here now, and I'm proud to count a black flamed Burch Edition Ghia among my collection.

I've got 5 versions of the JL Karmann Ghia, including the BWF Burch and Charity Wheels. But probably my favorite is the Gold Series one. I didn't get it when it first came available and it was a challenge to finally land one. I ended up getting it from a collector from HT, CJTORINO.

A Wyatt Masterpiece ^^

This is the only one I have and I'm definitely looking for other Ghia's
I personally adore the two-tone Ghia's. But... A Karmann Ghia is a Karmann Ghia!

My favorite Karmann Ghia of all time has to to be the Cabriolet Maxwell Smart (aka: Agent 86) drove in the opening credits of 'Get Smart'

We had a 1:1 for sale for a while around here. The color wasn't the best choice (like... an Avocado Green) but it had the original hub's and everything. Each time we drove past it, I fell for it a little more.

KEEP THE GHIA's COMING!!!

*just a spelling edit, lol*

Zilleonti, thanks for the edjumacation as I wasn't aware of the Ghia being used for Get Smart, but a little research confirms you are correct! Clap.gif I only remember the Sunbeam Tiger:

IPB Image

Wikipedia says that Max used this car from '65 to '67 and switched to the Ghia in '68, but the Ghia was only shown in the opening credits, never in the show itself.

Here is the JL release:

Lol. And you educated me some as well.
I don't know why but I thought 'Get Smart' changed convertibles every season, but that Tiger's a sweet looking convertible too!

I still remember the advanced billing on the release of this casting.
I was so excited to see this particular casting being released by Playing Mantis.
It is a vehicle that has an almost cult following.

I kept searching for it for a long time.
Well one day while out of town on a weekend trip I walked into a Walmart store and found it hanging on a peg. I got really excited.
You would have thought I had found a WL.
Not quite, but almost the same reaction.
It did come home with me along with the popscycle yellow Samba bus.
And that bus is still one of my very favorite colour versions of the VW Samba bus.
IPB Image
This is an image of the first VW Karmann-Ghia release.
It most definitely is a beauty.

And here is my other favourite Karmann-Ghia.
IPB Image
I bought this one for my wife.
And eventually, I aquired another copy for myself.

And this is that yellow coloured Samba bus that I still like:

Wyatt, thanks for the latest installment of The Picture Of The Week.
Very enjoyable reading plus some new things to learn about Get Smart and of course the additional tidbits from Jeff Koch with his insight into the background on the casting.
Thanks all for sharing.

Cheers. Cobra

I just Google'd the Opel GT...
Me likie, lol. It kind of looks like a European mini-Vette.
The molding for the pop-up headlights is pretty sweet.
IMO, there's just a few too many vents and openings on the hood and front end... lol.
I think I had one of those cheapos (69cent) of an Opel GT but I can't remember, lol.

    Now I'm hooked!

Thanks for the great pics again as usual Wyatt thumbsup.gif . This is one of my favorite castings too, since the '64 was my first car. And I had a very nice '72 for 20 years until I sold it this summer.
It's interesting that Jeff noted that there were no Ghia models until about 5 years ago. I remember how disappointed I was when I wanted one "just like mine" about 10 years ago. Now everyone makes one! Another thing I noticed is that Ghias are showing up in movies, TV shows and commercials lately. Should have known that as soon as I sold mine, they would become mainstream!
