Never had that one in my hand, but it always looked right to me proportionally.
I heard those transparent roofs would just roast you in the summer without A.C.
In '54 I think Ford called that option the Sun Valley. I forget if that's what they called it in '55-'56.
After that the option was discontinued. Then in '57, another unique car Ford had was the retractable
hardtop convertible. A folding metal roof convertible. That model continued through 1959.

Good choice Wyatt!

Ah yes, Skyliner.
Don't you mean '55-'56?

I know Sunliner was the soft top for many years.

Excellent choice for this week, Wyatt.
Another JL casting that I have always liked.
I am glad that you showed both roof variations.
I have a few different ones of this casting.
And it still looks good today.

James, I have two variations of the P.I.P. casting.
I may have to take a picture of my '55 Ford Crown Victorias.

Cheers. Cobra

Are they wheel variations?

You can leave that question for when you take your pics if you want, Cobra.

yes I remember as I was a youngen growing up in a coal camp..a guy bought one, white with red interior I think, every evening in the summer when he would pull into the camp we would all run down to his house and watch as he would fold the roof into the trunk..that was fun thumbsup.gif

thanks for the memories Clap.gif

A few years ago, my brother-in-law got one of these (1:1), but the 4-door. The colors were aqua and white (like the one in the top right of your pic). It was in someone's garage for years, and he was in the right place at the right time to purchase it. Got it for a good price and it only needed minor restoration. Who would've thought there was still classic iron hanging around in a garage in LONG ISLAND?!?

Lummox, thanks for explaining the transparent roof name--as soon as I saw the pic, I thought, "Gee, wonder what the Ford marketing guys called that?"

I think the 4drs were called Fordors for a while ~ I could be wrong (once I was) rolley.gif

I know they did call the 2drs Tudors for a time.

I have not seen the casting or the car not that i remember. I look forward to seeing one up close.
Interesting,in the real version of this car the green area glass or not?

Tiretracts said the roof would fold into trunk. I saw a movie once i think it was "Ford Fairland".
With Andrew "Dice" Clay playing the lead role.
His car in the movie, the roof of his car would fold into the trunk.
Is this the way it would happen with this car?

If anyone saw the movie. unsure.gif

Dr. Roachie ~

In the real version of this car, the clear section of the roof I THINK is made of plasic.

The above car( body style) had a two year run; '55 and'56. There was no retratctable hardtop available,
just the Sunliner soft-top, a standard type convertable coupe.

The convertable retractable hard-top, the Skyliner was produced from '57-'59.
It's important to note that a standard soft top type cnvt. was also available from '57-'59 as well.

On a similar note, alot of the retractable hdtps mechanizims where used in the '61-'66' Lincoln 4dr convertable.
It's top folded into the trunk in a similar fashion.
Most other cnvts, the top folds into an area confined to directly behind the rear seat.

Too much information? ~ TOO BAD!!! devil.gif biggrin.gif

I always thought the 1955 Ford Crown Victoria was a nice car.

I need to get the red / white version of this car.

I read in a car book that the colored roof option wasnt too popular because it tended to "bake" the occupants inside, despite the color.
