I'm not sure how accurate you guys like to get with this, but...The white and black car have maximum performance max wedge hoods, not Hemi. I can't tell what the yellow car has. devil.gif

Would make a great two-pack car with the '62 Plymouth that showed up a while back.

Scat Pack, wasn't "Super Stock 426" the official name used by Dodge Division for the non-hemispherical head 426 CID engine and "Max Wedge" the unofficial name used by most people.
I also know it by the name "Max Wedge 426".
In 1962 there was the Super Stock 413 that was unoficially also known as the Max Wedge.
Interesting discussion.
It is interesting how JL has tried to replicate this engine with the two offset four barrel carburators and the small chrome air cleaner/filter covers. This is definitely an attempt at realism in this particular casting.
If you turn the casting over and look at the bottom: check out the blocked off header cut-outs where the twin exhaust pipes turn outwards towards the sides of the car with the caps while the main part of the exhaust pipes continue back in normal fashion towards the rear of the car.

I do have the off-white and the black coloured versions.
As you have stated these do have the Super Stock 426 engines.
I don't know what engine is suppose to be represented in the yellow coloured version, but I suspect that it has the same engine casting as the other two.

Cheers. Cobra

This image below best illustrates what I was talking about here in regards to the blocked off header cut-outs:

laugh.gif accobra64, I take it you guys like to get pretty technical. Cool. The '62 engine was the 413 wedge maximum performance. In '63 NHRA rules allowed a maximum engine displacement of 427 cubic inches so to take advantage of this Dodge and Plymouth enlarged the engine displacement to 426. The 425 hp (code 519) Dodge engine was identified as the Ramcharger 426, and the Super Stock was the Plymouth version. After June of '63 the engine was known as the 426-A in the Dodge and 426 II in the Plymouth. In Oct of '63 they refined the 426 Wedge one last time. Once again it was called the 426-B in the dodge, and the 426 III in the Plymouth. The last of these Maximum Performance engines was the A-864 426 Hemi engine known as the Hemi-Charger in the Dodge and Super Comando in the Plymouth. these were the early race Hemi motors.
And I too have the off white and black versions. thumbsup.gif

Well then, I can add one thing of interest to this conversation. The '64 Melrose Missle was one of the first '64 Hemi cars, and it was a VERY early built car. It had a Max Wedge dual scoop, and a Hemi engine, but it was a Plymouth. I can't remember ever seeing a Dodge...but with Mopar....never say never. biggrin.gif

cobra this is one thing i like about you
you allways come up with information
on the cars that interest the guys
the tech stuff .
so a question .
when dodge had the drag cars
in the 62 to 64 model cars
didnt they have to shorten the body up on
one of the models for drag racing
i seem to remember seeing a picture of
a longer body on a car and a shorter body
in a old car magazine
by the way how do these little cars run
no spark plug wires ,
no distributer caps . l.o.l.

Another thing to keep in mind regarding the early '64 Hemi cars was the grill. To save weight the Hemi cars only had the two ouside headlights. They didn't have the two inside lights. The cars that had the four headlights in the grill were Max wedge cars... 426 Maximum Performance Wedge.
This of course brings up another technical point. Starting in '63 the Maximum Performance Wedge 425 hp was offered with an aluminum lightweight front end. This is the scoop package, and it consisted of bumpers, brackets, front fenders, and dual scooped hood. This package was also available in the '64 Hemi cars and those had the above mentioned aluminum parts with the single scooped hood, PLUS it included aluminum doors.

Wyatt, I sure wasn't gunning for you post...I LOVE the pics!

Oh yea...one last thing. It is pretty amazing that a company would go to that extreme detail...casting an early build '64 stage III Max Wedge...... in a kids toy. After messing around with the real thing, it isn't hard to believe that a guy could get hooked on these little things.
Now where is that '63 swiss cheese 421 Superduty Pontiac Catalina. That would be the real Head to Head!

Scat Pak ~ wave.gif

I knew that about the 2 only headlights on the Hemi cars ~
but what I always wondered was exactly how they made the little filler pieces to cover the holes.
I suspect they just hacked out chunks of grills for them.
Or did the actually make special pieces particular to these cars?

Yep, In '65 at least, they cut up a perfectly good grill and rivited the pieces on to the hemi grill. Mopar wasn't very big on fit and finish. The '68 Superstock Hemi A-bodies were the worst...they were barely screwed together when delivered.

Wyatt, what a great subject that you picked for The Picture Of The Week.
Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this one.

I would like to thank Scat Pack for all the technical information that he has provided.
I found it educational.

And RacerJoe, you came through again with another wonderful animation that is very fitting in the appreciation to Wyatt and JLTalk.

And Pearl, we do know that you are a full fledged grease monkey from way back.
Thanks for being part of the discussion.

Cheers. Cobra

This picture is for all the Mopar fans and Lummox in particular.

I had to find at least one picture to go along with the topic.

Another historical picture:

I wonder which one won?
'64 Dogde A/FX vs. '65 Shelby AC Cobra Mk III 427 CID
Now this is a vintage picture.
And I like it even more because it features an AC Cobra.
Look at the width of the front tires on the Dodge!
I found some wonderful picture on this site all related to drag racing.

I wonder if this race was run on the runway at an airport.

Cheers. Cobra

I sure AM interested ~ thank you, sir! Those type of pics are something I very much enjoy.
I have many early '60s car mags with lots of stuff like that in them. I love it!
Both those '64 Dodges (or is it the same car?) are AWB (altered wheel base) cars.
you will note just the FRONT wheels have been moved foward. Way cool.
Thanks again my good man!!!
I'll have to look at these again tomorrow when I have more time ~ Nighty-Night!!! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif wave.gif

A couple pictures of my custom '64 Dodge 330 castings:

IPB Image
This one was supposed to look vintage 1964 or where-abouts.
It has normal size tires on the front with steelies that have the wheel bearing cap.
The plain black tires on the back are very large but don't show up well in the picture.
The back tires are almost the size of slicks.
I will have to try taking another picture another day.
I was trying to get this detail for Lummox.

IPB Image
This is my treatment of the off-white version.
I was trying for the sixties style plain jane street sleeper appearance.
I like how it turned out.

Cheers. Cobra

Nice job on both of those Cobra.

Was there a lot of work involved in getting those big buns on the back of the black one? I like it a lot.

The stealthy white sleeper is sweet too. I can picture some Granny from he(double hockey sticks) devil.gif going around suckering people for pink slips with that all innocent looking kitten.

Well, I didn't have to drill out the base, and that was a bonus.
You know FreqE1, I have done so many wheel/tire swaps that I don't think about it for the most part.
I am patient but also persistant.
I will work at it for a while, if I get frustrated I just take a quick break and then have another go at it.
Yes, it did take a little extra effort. It's the appearance that makes it all worth while.
