Very nice, Wyatt.
It has been a very long time since JL used this casting.
I believe that the last one produced was the BWF edition.
I have a few different copies of this casting.
I thought that JL did a much better job on this casting than they did on the 1971 El Camino.

This is my favourite non-BWF edition:

This is my favourite non-BWF edition.
It is from one of the Truckin' USA releases from a very long time ago.

thumbsup.gif Thank You Wyatt

Can you spell B - O - W - T - I - E I knew you could

They look awesome

I have a Racing Champions El Camino and it is really bad for detail and proportions, On the other hand the Racing Champion's Ranchero looks awesome. But this El Camino is another casting I'll have to put on my "To Find and Buy" list. Any one of them, they all look really real.

Thanks again for posting

Thanks Wyatt -

The dark red one w/out the white top in a collector's tin box
was actually my VERY first contemporary JL. Just didn't happen to run across any other JLs until Jan '07!!!
I was thinking the very same thing Cobra, surprised they haven't used this casting lately.

What release is that red & white one from? That's the best looking one of the bunch IMO.
It looks like a de-tampoed Coke car!

This casting is perfect exept for the one piece A pillar/vent window. - What gives, JL?

Nice custom, Racer-Joe!!!!!!!!!!!

Lummox if you look at images of most of the castings from the nineties, they were made that way.
I think that it may have had something to do with strengthening the roofs on these castings because they were originally made as diecast toys. Which means that young children would PROBABLY play with them.

This red and white version is from Classic Gold 2 release 6 from about ?2000?.
It definitely is a very nice version.
Image courtsy of JLCollector.com. Thanks Wyatt.

Hey there Cobra -
Yes I have seen many earlier ones with the A-pillars like that.
I figured it was a strength thing. I'm glad they're not doing it any more though.
i don't think it was really necessary - I've never seen any vintage Matchbox like that.
And when I said "what gives JL?" what I meant was - What gives? Why not release
this fine casting again! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif wave.gif
